🥙 Mini Lamb Meatball Pita Pockets with Tzatziki

These flavorful pita pockets are filled with spiced lamb meatballs, fresh vegetables, and a cool, garlicky mint tzatziki. A perfect Mediterranean-inspired handheld meal.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • ½ pound lean ground lamb
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • ½ cucumber, peeled and coarsely grated
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

For Assembly:

  • 4 pita breads
  • 2 carrots, coarsely grated
  • 4 tomatoes, halved, seeded, and diced

Instructions

    Make the meatballs: In a bowl, mix ground lamb with garlic, cumin, egg yolk, salt, and pepper. Shape into small meatballs. Broil for 5 minutes, turning once, until cooked through. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.

    Prepare the tzatziki: Grate the cucumber and squeeze out excess water using your hands. In a bowl, combine cucumber with garlic, yogurt, mint, salt, and pepper. Mix well, cover, and chill.

    Warm the pita: Broil each pita for about 30 seconds per side. Cut in half and gently open each pocket.

    Assemble: Fill each pita half with meatballs, grated carrots, and diced tomatoes. Drizzle generously with tzatziki sauce.
